About this position
California Institute of Technology (Caltech) invites applications for Postdoctoral Scholar positions in climate science and modeling through the Climate Modeling Alliance (CliMA), within the Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences and the Division of Engineering and Applied Science.
Postdoctoral researchers will contribute to the development of an Earth system model that learns from diverse data sources, including satellite and ground-based Earth observations, high-resolution simulations, and experimental data. The interdisciplinary environment brings together scientists, engineers, and mathematicians working on globally significant climate research.
Potential research areas include cloud microphysics parameterizations using physics-based and data-driven models; aerosol modeling and cloud-aerosol interactions through conceptual modeling and learning unknown parameters and functions from observations; and scalable data assimilation and machine learning methods for climate models.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in applied mathematics, atmospheric or oceanic sciences, computer science, engineering, physics, statistics, or a related discipline by the time of appointment. A strong background in physical, mathematical, or computational sciences, programming experience, and effective written and verbal communication skills are required. Experience with climate models and multidisciplinary collaboration is preferred.
To apply, create an account in the Caltech application portal, submit the application form, upload a curriculum vitae and one-page statement of research interests, and arrange for three recommendation letters. The positions are term appointments with specific renewal requirements and remain open until filled. For questions, contact [email protected].
