About this position
RAMI Postdoctoral Fellowship Program 2027 at Rice University
The Rice Advanced Materials Institute (RAMI) is inviting applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in advanced materials at Rice University. The fellowship is designed to support outstanding early-career scholars, strengthen interdisciplinary research, and help build new directions in materials science at Rice.
Research areas include: next-generation electronic/photonic materials, energy materials, and materials for environmental stewardship. The call also highlights the cross-cutting theme of accelerating and automating materials discovery, design, and manufacturing. Projects should clearly connect to one or more RAMI focus areas and emphasize interdisciplinary approaches.
Funding: fellows receive an annual salary of $75,000. Total annual support is listed as $94,350 (salary + fringe), with funding split 80% RAMI and 20% host PI(s). The appointment is expected to last two years or follow a one-plus-one structure, with continuation after year one dependent on performance and funding.
Eligibility highlights: applicants must have a Ph.D. in a related field, have received the Ph.D. in July 2025 or later, and have no more than two years between degree award and the July 1, 2027 start date. Candidates should be exceptional young scientists or engineers with strong evidence of research promise. Non-US citizens must be eligible for J-1 Scholar visa status. Priority is given to nominees new to Rice and to proposals that bridge traditional materials research boundaries.
Application materials include a CV, a nomination letter from the faculty advisor(s), and a research proposal with a concise objectives statement, a RAMI connection summary, a state-of-the-art and novelty discussion, and an impact statement. Applications are submitted through the online form, and the mentor may email the nomination letter separately if needed.
Deadline: December 11, 2026, 5 PM CST. Awards are anticipated around the end of January 2027 for a July 1, 2027 start.
