About this position
This postdoctoral fellowship is part of the Targeted Simons Research Group on Dark Matter Dynamics, a collaboration building a theoretical framework that connects particle-physics models of dark matter with new forces to predictions for galaxies. The successful researcher will contribute to a project that sits at the interface of theory, numerical simulation, and astrophysical observation, helping to turn dark matter models into testable galactic and small-scale structure predictions.
The position is based primarily at the University of California, Riverside, within the Department of Physics and Astronomy, and involves close collaboration across multiple nodes of the research group. A particular emphasis is placed on interaction with the University of California, Irvine, reflecting the collaborative nature of the project. The fellow will work with established researchers in the collaboration to develop and lead work that advances the group’s scientific goals.
The research environment is centered on dark matter phenomenology and galaxy-scale astrophysics, with a strong computational and collaborative component. The project explicitly aims to connect numerical simulations with the formation and evolution of galaxies and black holes in the early Universe, and with observations relevant to dark matter physics. This is an opportunity to join a high-level theoretical effort focused on extracting galactic implications from particle-physics dark matter models.
The appointment is for two years, with the possibility of renewal for a third year depending on performance, funding, and requirements being met.

What's required
Candidates should have a doctorate degree in Physics, Astronomy, or a closely related field. Preferred qualifications include experience with semi-analytical, fluid, N-body, or hydrodynamical simulations, with at least one publication in this area; candidates who have developed and carried out new simulations are especially preferred. Applicants should also have working knowledge of dark matter phenomenology, the formation and evolution of galaxies and black holes in the early Universe, and small-scale structure observables relevant to dark matter physics.
How to apply
Submit a research statement of up to 2 pages excluding references, a curriculum vitae including publications, and three reference letters through the application link. Apply by December 1, 2026 for full consideration.
