About this position
This research opportunity is hosted by the DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory and sits within the Human Research and Engineering Directorate (HRED), ARL’s principal center for research and development focused on optimizing Soldier performance and human-autonomy teaming.
The project, Timescales in Cybernetic Systems, investigates how highly dynamic electrical activity in the human brain gives rise to the macroscopic signals observed through current neuroimaging methods. The research group is developing new analytic approaches to understand relationships between neural activity, simulated brain activity, and experimentally acquired neuroimaging data.
The work brings together concepts from dynamical systems theory, topological data analysis, and machine learning to study brain data at multiple scales. The broader environment emphasizes human cognition, adaptive teaming, human-robot interaction, and human-informed machine learning for future Army teams.
The posting also places the project in the wider context of ARL-RAP, a research associateship program that supports scientific and technical research relevant to Army needs across a range of disciplines including computational and information sciences, mathematics and statistics, engineering, and life and medical sciences.
