Postdoctoral Researcher in Machine Learning for Digital Biomarkers and Wearable Robotics

Stevens Institute of Technology is advertising a Postdoctoral Researcher opportunity in machine learning for digital biomarkers within the Wearable Robotic Systems Lab . The project is based in Hoboken, NJ, with collaboration at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York, NY. The research focuses on developing insole-based functional digital biomarkers for neuromuscular disorders . The successful candidate will work on real-world gait monitoring using cloud-connected instrumented insoles and advanced machine-learning pipelines to derive novel digital mobility outcomes (DMOs) and evaluate disease progression. Core research themes include machine learning , signal processing , wearable sensor technologies , gait analysis , and translational clinical research. Responsibilities include building and evaluating supervised ML models for spatiotemporal and kinetic gait DMOs, collaborating with clinical experts, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, presenting at conferences, mentoring graduate students, contributing to grant writing, and supporting technology transfer and commercialization. Eligibility requirements include a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Applicants should have strong ML and/or wearable sensing experience, with gait analysis or digital biomarker experience highly desirable. MATLAB proficiency is required, and Python is preferred. A strong publication record and excellent communication skills are also expected. Applications are encouraged by 2026-06-15 , though the position will remain open until filled. To apply, email a cover letter, CV, and three professional references to [email protected] .
