Fully Funded PhD in Biophysics and Super-Resolution Microscopy at University of Groningen

PhD opportunity in biophysics , biology , physics , and computer science at the University of Groningen (Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials), in the Molecular Biophysics group. The project, Revealing Selective Cellular Transport with Super-Resolution Microscopy , focuses on how cells control what enters and exits key compartments, using STED super-resolution microscopy , live-cell fluorescence microscopy, mammalian and yeast cell culture, automated experimental workflows, image/data analysis, and scientific programming. This is a fully funded 4-year PhD position in the group of Prof. Rifka Vlijm , working in an interdisciplinary consortium with Prof. Patrick Onck , Liesbeth Veenhoff , and Cees Dekker . The research environment is the Faculty of Science and Engineering at a globally recognized university with strong links to nanoscience, nanotechnology, and medical technology. Eligibility highlights: MSc in biophysics preferred; molecular biology, biotechnology/bioengineering, physics (optics), or equivalent may also qualify. Applicants should have a strong experimental background in microscopy, molecular biophysics/biology, or cell biology. Python programming and cell culture experience are advantageous. Fluent English is required. Funding: salary of €3,059–€3,881 gross per month, 8.3% end-of-year bonus, 8% holiday allowance, 232 vacation hours per year, and professional development support.
