About this position
The International Max Planck Research School for Molecular Plant Science (IMPRS MolPlant) is a joint doctoral programme of the University of Potsdam and the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology in Potsdam, Germany. It offers PhD research and training in modern plant science within an interdisciplinary and research-intensive environment.
Doctoral researchers work on fundamental questions in plant biology, including photosynthesis, central metabolism, respiration, organ and tissue formation, epigenetic inheritance, plant development, plant–fungus symbiosis, responses to environmental conditions such as light, temperature, water and nutrients, viral infection and host defence, and the integration of large-scale omics datasets to generate new biological hypotheses.
The programme brings together students from diverse backgrounds in the life and natural sciences and supports research spanning molecular biology, genetics, genomics, epigenomics, metabolomics, biochemistry, biophysics, microscopy, bioinformatics, and modelling. Research is carried out using model plants such as Arabidopsis thaliana, tobacco, tomato, Lotus japonicus, and rice, as well as natural accessions, related species, and introgression populations.
IMPRS MolPlant includes structured research and supervision, research training and discussion, and support for international doctoral candidates through university and institute services. Doctoral researchers are registered with the Faculty of Science at the University of Potsdam.
