About this position

Postdoctoral scholarship in angiogenesis and cancer metabolism at Karolinska Institutet

This opportunity is a postdoctoral scholarship in the Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology, Tumor Biology Division, in Professor Yihai Cao’s research group at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. The project focuses on angiogenesis, vascular biology, adipose metabolism, and how these processes shape tumor growth, metastasis, and responses to anticancer drugs.

The lab works on basic and translational cancer research, using unique technologies and platforms to study the molecular mechanisms of cancer onset, progression, and treatment response. The advertised project is cross-disciplinary and calls for broad technical experience, especially in omics approaches and in vivo disease models.

Research keywords: angiogenesis, cancer metabolism, tumor biology, vascular biology, metastasis, omics, cell biology, mouse models, drug response, translational cancer research.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a PhD in an appropriate scientific field (or an equivalent foreign degree). Strong research experience and an excellent track record in cancer research are required. The call is intended for foreign researchers coming to Sweden for postdoctoral education; candidates already resident in Sweden or who have completed part of their academic education in Sweden are not eligible. Preferred experience includes cell culture, flow cytometry, IHC, ELISA, genomics, proteomics, molecular biology techniques, vascular biology, metabolism, metastasis, and mouse experiments. Supervision experience is considered an advantage.

Funding: the appointment is a scholarship, tax-free, paid in twelve-month blocks and disbursed every six months. It may be granted for up to two years within a four-year period after the doctoral degree.

Application: submit a complete CV, publication list, and a one-page summary of current work through the Varbi recruitment system. The deadline is 11 November 2026.

Institution: Karolinska Institutet, Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology, Tumor Biology Division, Solna, Sweden.
