Description

The Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, Germany, is offering a 3-year PhD position in the Brain Networks Research & Development Group led by Prof. Thomas R. Knösche. The project focuses on investigating the role of long-range brain connectivity in human language processing, utilizing EEG and MRI experiments, and realistic modeling of biological neural networks. The research is interdisciplinary and involves collaboration with TU Berlin, TU Chemnitz, and the Czech Academy of Sciences, supported by DFG funding. Applicants should have a Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, neuroscience, physics, or a related field, with strong programming skills (C++, Matlab, Python). Experience with EEG/MEG, MRI, biophysical modeling, or machine learning is advantageous. The institute provides a world-class research environment with cutting-edge facilities, including 3T Connectom, 7T Terra.X, MEG, EEG, and TMS. The position is funded for three years at 65% TVöD E13, with possible extension. To apply, candidates should submit a motivation and research interest statement (max 2 pages), CV, transcripts (BSc + MSc), and contact details for up to two referees, referencing “PhD 10/25”. Informal inquiries can be directed to Prof. Dr. Thomas R. Knösche at knoesche@cbs.mpg.de. The Max Planck Society encourages applications from women, non-binary researchers, and persons with disabilities. The application deadline is October 1, 2024.
