PhD opportunity at the University of Dundee in the area of cell biology , biochemistry , biophysics , genetics , and molecular biology . The project, supervised by Prof Tomo Tanaka , investigates how cells achieve correct chromosome biorientation during mitosis by regulating kinetochore-microtubule interactions . The work focuses on the outer kinetochore complexes Ndc80 and Dam1 , the role of Aurora B kinase in error correction, and how mechanical tension stabilises proper chromosome segregation...

PhD opportunity in plant chemical defence, single-cell biology, genomics, and metabolomics at The Sainsbury Laboratory in Norwich, United Kingdom, working with the Osbourn group at the John Innes Centre . This project asks where plants make their medicine: how different cells in infected leaves activate distinct chemical defence pathways, how those cell states are organised around infection sites, and how this organisation may reveal new biosynthetic pathways. The research combines plant biology...

About this position

A fully funded PhD studentship is available in the Department of Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction at Imperial College London, supervised by Dr Petros Andrikopoulos. The project focuses on host–microbiome interactions in cardiorenal and metabolic diseases, aiming to uncover how microbial metabolites influence kidney and cardiovascular function. This interdisciplinary research will utilize cellular models, including human primary cells and organoids, alongside advanced omics technologies such as metabolomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics, as well as computational approaches. The ideal candidate will have a background in cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, or related fields, with experience in cell culture and molecular techniques being desirable. An interest in computational analysis using R or Python is advantageous. The studentship is fully funded for 36 months, covering UK/Home tuition fees and providing a tax-free stipend of approximately £21,237 per year. Overseas candidates are welcome to apply but must cover the difference between UK/Home and international tuition fees. The start date is January 2026, with some flexibility. The application deadline is 9 November 2025. To apply, candidates should send a CV, cover letter, and contact details of two referees to Dr Petros Andrikopoulos at [email protected]. This opportunity is ideal for motivated students interested in interdisciplinary biomedical research at a leading UK institution.
