PhD in Host–Microbiome Interactions in Cardiorenal and Metabolic Diseases at Imperial College London

A fully funded PhD studentship is available in the Department of Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction at Imperial College London, supervised by Dr Petros Andrikopoulos. The project focuses on host–microbiome interactions in cardiorenal and metabolic diseases, aiming to uncover how microbial metabolites influence kidney and cardiovascular function. This interdisciplinary research will utilize cellular models, including human primary cells and organoids, alongside advanced omics technologies such as metabolomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics, as well as computational approaches. The ideal candidate will have a background in cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, or related fields, with experience in cell culture and molecular techniques being desirable. An interest in computational analysis using R or Python is advantageous. The studentship is fully funded for 36 months, covering UK/Home tuition fees and providing a tax-free stipend of approximately £21,237 per year. Overseas candidates are welcome to apply but must cover the difference between UK/Home and international tuition fees. The start date is January 2026, with some flexibility.
