About this position
The Biomarkers in Brain Disease research group at Lund University is recruiting a PhD student to work on biomarkers and disease mechanisms in Huntington’s disease and related neurodegeneration. The project is centred on how the body’s biological clock, sleep and circadian rhythms may influence disease progression, building on the idea that disruptions in timing systems are not only symptoms but may also contribute to neurodegenerative processes.
The doctoral project combines in vitro and in vivo studies with molecular and transcriptomic approaches, including RNA sequencing. The student will investigate interactions between the body and brain, focusing on how the central clock in the hypothalamus and peripheral cellular rhythms relate to the Huntington’s disease process. The work is described as a balance between experimental laboratory work and data analysis.
The research takes place in the Department of Experimental Medical Science, within a shared environment of five research groups working on neurodegenerative diseases. The setting brings together around 25–30 people and offers shared equipment, joint laboratory meetings, and a friendly, internationally oriented atmosphere. The group is active in the European Huntington’s Disease Network and the Lund University Huntington Centre.
This position is based in Lund and is part of a broader research environment focused on brain disease, molecular methods, and translational questions in neurodegeneration.
