REAL Lab at Northwestern University is seeking a highly motivated postdoc in Agentic AI, with a strong emphasis on LLM agents, multi-agent systems, and reliable, efficient AI. The lab, led by Kaize Ding, focuses on developing agentic systems that operate in complex open-world environments.

Research directions highlighted in the opening include LLM-based agents, agent planning, reasoning, memory, reinforcement learning, tool use, human–AI collaboration, and the evaluation, safety, reliability, and robustness of AI agents. The lab also welcomes candidates interested in AI for Health and Science, including AI for healthcare, molecular and drug discovery, materials and chemical discovery, and environmental/spatiotemporal modeling.

This is a funded postdoctoral position for one to two years, with an anticipated start date of October 1, 2026. The position is based at Northwestern University in the United States.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a closely related field, and should have a strong background in AI/ML, especially in LLMs, LLM agents, multi-agent systems, or AI for Science. Strong collaboration and communication skills are also expected.
