About this position
Karolinska Institutet is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for an ambitious translational project in the Helleday Laboratory, based in the Department of Oncology-Pathology and located at Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab), Solna. The position sits in a multidisciplinary environment that combines biology, biochemistry, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, and strong experience from the pharmaceutical industry.
The project explores the therapeutic potential of novel inhibitors in immunology, with a particular emphasis on immuno-oncology and autoimmunity. The successful candidate will help drive an experimental research programme that aims to translate laboratory findings into new therapeutic approaches against cancer and autoimmune disease.
The role is highly hands-on and independent: the researcher will plan experiments, generate and analyse data, interpret results, and work closely with colleagues in the research group and within national and international networks. The position also involves direct interaction with industrial partners to support translation toward clinical application. The group’s broader research environment is oriented toward drug discovery and translational science, with a record of moving fundamental discoveries toward therapeutic strategies.
The lab is led by Professor Thomas Helleday, whose group has contributed to targeted therapies and inhibitor development across cancer and inflammatory disease research. The advertised role is embedded in a collaborative setting with PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and senior scientists, offering access to a broad range of expertise and methods relevant to experimental biomedical research.
The appointment is for a fixed term with the possibility of extension.

What's required
A PhD or equivalent foreign degree is required and must be completed by the employment decision; applicants must hold or be about to complete a PhD in cancer biology, immunology, cell biology, or a closely related biomedical discipline. Strong hands-on experience with in vivo animal models, multicolour flow cytometry, flow cytometry panel design, immunofluorescence microscopy, and bioinformatic analysis of genomic and/or proteomic datasets is required. Applicants should have first- and/or second-author peer-reviewed publications, excellent written and verbal English, and strong analytical, organisational, interpersonal, and independent research skills. Experience in drug discovery, autoimmune disease models, DNA damage response research, grant applications, and supervision of students or junior researchers is considered an advantage.
