Postdoctoral Researcher in In Vivo Gene Therapy for Epilepsy and Rare Neurodevelopmental Disorders Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in Ireland

The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the laboratory of Professor David Henshall, located at the FutureNeuro Research Centre in Dublin. This full-time, 12-month post focuses on in vivo gene therapy for epilepsy and rare neurodevelopmental disorders, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge translational research in neuroscience.

The successful candidate will lead research projects investigating the effects of novel gene therapy-based treatments for acquired and genetic epilepsies. Responsibilities include performing in vivo studies using minimally-invasive methods to deliver gene therapies in preclinical mouse models, managing mouse colonies and genotyping, conducting EEG and behavioral assessments, and undertaking histology and molecular studies. The role also involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary team at the FutureNeuro Research Centre, which is dedicated to developing new treatments and technologies for brain diseases.

Applicants must hold a PhD in neuroscience, pharmacology, or a related discipline, with essential expertise in in vivo models of brain injury, stereotaxic surgery, rodent behavioral assays, histology, and neurochemical assays. A strong publication and/or funding record, proficiency in computer and presentation skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are required. Visa sponsorship is available for candidates who meet the essential criteria, and proof of eligibility to work in Ireland will be required during the recruitment process.
