About this position
Postdoctoral position in Quantum-Secure Communication at the University of Warsaw, within the MAB QLAB Centre for Hybrid Quantum-Classical Information Technologies. The position sits in Group 1, which focuses on security proofs for quantum communication protocols, hybrid solutions combining quantum and post-quantum cryptography, and research on quantum networks and their integration with critical infrastructure.
The role is a full-time research post funded under the European Funds for a Modern Economy 2021-2027 (FENG) programme, via the MAB QLAB project supported by the Foundation for Polish Science. The appointment is for up to 36 months, with a planned start on 1 December 2026. Gross monthly pay is 16,500–17,500 PLN, and the project also offers a start-up package covering travel, conferences, and computational resources, plus mobility opportunities with QLAB partners.
Research activities include designing and analysing security proofs for quantum communication protocols, developing hybrid quantum + post-quantum cryptographic solutions, building research code, carrying out numerical/theoretical analyses, and contributing to experimental campaigns when relevant. The successful candidate will also participate in seminars and joint activities, mentor PhD and master’s students, and help with reporting under FNP/FENG requirements. There are no teaching obligations.
Applicants must hold a PhD (or equivalent) in physics, computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline and have at least 5 years of R&D experience, including time at a foreign research institution. A strong independent publication record in quantum cryptography or quantum communication is required, together with advanced expertise in at least two of: finite-key security proofs for DI QKD/QKD, multi-node network protocol design, hybrid QKD+PQC protocols, implementation-attack and robustness analysis, or integration in test networks/ICT infrastructure. English at B2 level or higher is required.
Applications must be submitted by 18 November 2026 to [email protected] with the specified email subject and all required PDF attachments. The recruitment includes document screening, substantive evaluation, an interview, and final scoring. Candidates will be notified by email, typically within 30 days after the deadline.

What's required
Applicants must hold a PhD degree in physics, computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline. A minimum of 5 years of research and development experience is required, including experience at a foreign research institution, counted from the year the doctoral degree was awarded. Candidates should have a recognised independent track record in quantum cryptography or quantum communication, evidenced by publications in leading journals, and advanced experience in at least two areas such as finite-key security proofs for DI QKD/QKD, protocol design for multi-node networks and complex topologies, hybrid QKD+PQC protocols and key management, implementation attack analysis and robustness to losses/device imperfections, or integration/validation in test networks and classical ICT infrastructure. Applicants should be able to plan and lead research tasks independently, bring work to proof-of-concept demonstrators, supervise PhD students and other students, coordinate teamwork, and collaborate with industrial or infrastructure partners. Fluent written and spoken English at B2 level or higher is required. Desirable experience includes grant acquisition, patent applications, standardisation (ITU-T, ETSI), or certification of cryptographic solutions. During employment, the candidate must not hold another full-time job, and total workload must not exceed 276 hours per month.
