About this position

The Kvantti group (Superconducting Qubits and Circuit QED) in the Department of Applied Physics at Aalto University is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for experimental circuit QED. The project sits at the intersection of superconducting quantum circuits, quantum technology, and low-temperature experimental physics, with the goal of advancing superconducting qubits and resonators as platforms for quantum computers, quantum simulators, and emerging sensing applications.

You will join a vibrant international research team working on several active directions in the group. These include axion detection using superconducting qubits, control of quantum computers using microwave and optical signals, and continuous-variable quantum information processing and sensing with parametric amplifiers. The role emphasizes hands-on experimental research and taking initiative in the lab, with opportunities to contribute across device design, fabrication, cryogenic measurement, microwave instrumentation, simulations, and data analysis.

The position is embedded in Aalto’s broader quantum technology environment, with access to the Kvantti group’s experimental facilities and to the OtaNano infrastructure for micro-, nano-, and quantum technologies. The research environment includes advanced nanofabrication, cryogenics, microscopy, and electronics, as well as the Low Temperature Laboratory where the group is based. The postdoc will also be part of a wider ecosystem of academic, industrial, and startup partners in the Otaniemi area and the Greater Helsinki quantum cluster.

Supervision and further project information are available from Prof. Sorin Paraoanu, the group leader.
