About this position
This research opportunity is with the DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory and its Integrated Photonics Sensors team. The participant will work on modeling and simulation, design, and testing of photonic integrated circuit (PIC) materials, components, or systems, contributing to Army-relevant photonics research and development.
The project spans a range of topical areas, including high-speed modulators, C-band, O-band, and 780 nm PIC components and systems, PIC interface electronics, free-space optical communications, and bio or chemical sensors. The appointment emphasizes independent research under the mentorship of the team leader, with on-site training provided as needed, including exposure to cleanroom tools and processes.
Participants may also have the opportunity to author presentations, publications, and patents, contribute to Department of Defense reports, and attend conferences and government meetings where appropriate. The role is embedded in ARL’s Photonics, Electronics, and Quantum Sciences area, within a research environment focused on disruptive science and technology for Army capabilities.
