About this position
This PhD scholarship at Monash University invites an early-stage researcher to investigate secure quantum computation on shared quantum processors. The project focuses on the security risks that arise when multiple users access the same quantum processor through cloud-based shared environments, where carefully crafted quantum gate sequences may interfere with other users’ jobs and produce incorrect results.
The successful candidate will analyse vulnerabilities in shared quantum computers and develop software-level solutions to support secure and reliable access to quantum compute resources. The research is positioned within the Scalable Quantum Systems Lab and its wider quantum computing environment, with connections to projects spanning applications of quantum computing in the Brisbane 2032 Olympics Games, the National Quantum Computing Testbed Facility, and Quantum Artificial Intelligence for Defence.
The scholarship is supervised by Professor Muhammad Usman and is based at Clayton campus, Melbourne. The candidate will join a world-class research program in the Faculty of Information Technology and work alongside post-doctoral researchers and PhD students in an active interdisciplinary setting that combines quantum computing, security, and software-oriented research.
This opening is explicitly framed as a PhD research opportunity and scholarship in a fast-growing area of quantum technology, with a strong emphasis on securing shared quantum computing infrastructure.
