About this position
The Institute of Nuclear Physics Polish Academy of Sciences (IFJ PAN) in Krakow, Poland, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher (Adjunct) position in the Department of Nuclear Reactions and Hadronic Processes (NZ24), Division of Nuclear Physics and Strong Interactions. This full-time, fixed-term position (up to 33 months) focuses on experimental and computational research in nuclear and particle physics, with a primary emphasis on the Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment at the GSI/FAIR facility in Darmstadt.
The successful candidate will join the CBM experiment, conducting simulation studies of D meson and Lc hyperon production, as well as semi-leptonic hyperon decays in proton-proton collisions (4.5–30 GeV), utilizing the CBMRoot package. Responsibilities include investigating background sources using transport codes (GiBUU, SMASH) and the PLUTO event generator, actively participating in regular group meetings, and disseminating research results through publications and presentations at international conferences. The role also involves applying for external research funding.
Applicants must hold a PhD in physical sciences or a related discipline (chemistry, physical chemistry, or material science), with a strong record of publications in international journals. Essential skills include expertise in nuclear or particle physics at intermediate energies, experience in experimental data analysis and simulations, proficiency with the ROOT package, and advanced programming skills in C/C++/Python within a Linux environment. Teamwork and excellent English communication skills are required. Additional assets include knowledge of AI methods, transport codes (GiBUU, SMASH, UrQMD), and event generators (PLUTO, PYTHIA).
The position offers a competitive monthly gross salary (PLN 7,250 for PhD holders, PLN 8,050 for habilitated doctors), with possible additional benefits such as long-service awards, annual bonuses, and support from the Company Social Benefits Fund. The role is research-focused with no teaching obligations, and provides access to state-of-the-art facilities, computing infrastructure, and opportunities for collaboration with leading experts and institutes.
Applications must be submitted by May 4th, 2026. Candidates are required to contact Prof. Adam Kozela ([email protected]) early in the process and may be asked to deliver a seminar prior to application. Application documents should be sent to [email protected], with referee recommendations sent directly by the referees. Interviews will be held June 9–11, 2026, and the competition will conclude by June 22, 2026.
